Barium in Drinking Water and Well Water

Barium is a naturally occurring earth metal that can be found most commonly in Alaska, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Kentucky, Montana, Nevada, and Tennessee.  Man-made sources of Barium contamination include drilling wastes, copper smelting, vehicle parts manufacturing, electronic components, in metal alloys, bleaches, dyes, fireworks, ceramics, glass and more. 

Potential Health Effects include difficulties in breathing, increased blood pressure, changes in heart rhythm, stomach irritation, brain swelling, muscle weakness, and damage to the liver, kidney, heart, and spleen.

Treatment Methods for Point-of-Entry (POE) and Point-of-Use (POU) include Cation Exchange, RO Reverse Osmosis Systems and Distillation.
